Brandwatch Alternatives and Competitors: Compared on What You Can Export

Brandwatch Alternatives and Competitors: Compared on What You Can Export

Vendor pages, developer docs and platform terms checked October 2026.

Brandwatch's renewal quote lands the same week your data team asks for the raw X posts behind last quarter's report. The API hands back a column of post IDs.

That is often when a team starts comparing Brandwatch alternatives and Brandwatch competitors on what the export contains. Be fair to the incumbent first. Brandwatch says Consumer Research "offers access to the complete X firehose". Its developer docs say: "Any Mention that is a X post will have the full text and most of its metadata stripped out." And Brandwatch publishes no prices.

So the useful question is not which networks a tool covers. It is where your social data has to end up: a dashboard, an export, an API, or your own warehouse.

By the end, you will have a shortlist of two or three sorted by that destination, and a nine-line test to run on your own keywords before you renew. Skip to the switch test.

Quick Digest
  • The export gap is documented: seven tools here, Brandwatch included, say their API returns X posts as IDs, without text, or not at all.
  • Full text by API is sold, not standard: Talkwalker documents a paid X add-on; Meltwater's 2024 resyndication claim is absent from its API docs.
  • Reddit is tightening: Sprinklr masks Reddit exports from March 2026; Reddit said it will close public API access by March 2027.
  • No paid placement: no vendor paid to appear, and we print no review scores.

Brandwatch alternatives at a glance

These bands sort tools by what you can take out of them, not by which is better.

Prices are each vendor's own list price; where none is published, we say so.

How we judged each alternative

Every entry is read against six gaps from vendors' own docs and terms. A tool made the list if it sells social listening, social data access or a managed social data feed for commercial use, was current in October 2026, and states how its data is obtained: 13 alternatives in four bands.

No vendor paid for placement. We print no review scores: counts per product on the largest review website range from about a hundred to several thousand, and recent reviews are often seller-invited, so a score column would compare unlike samples.

Gap What to check Example from vendor docs
D1. The dashboard shows it; the export does not Full text per network, UI and API Talkwalker X exports: ID, author, sentiment
D2. Coverage nobody defined Which posts arrive per network Sprout: "Other sources are sample based"
D3. The platform moved, so every vendor moved What happens when a source goes Brandwatch §2.2: stops "without liability"
D4. No price to argue with Published figure, package, meter Meltwater: "tailored pricing"
D5. The licence travels with the post AI-use and redistribution clauses X bans training "a foundation or frontier model"
D6. What you keep when you leave Exit and deletion clauses Brandwatch MSA §6.4: delete unlicensed data

A source count without a definition is not a coverage claim.

A firehose in the product is not full text in your export

Brandwatch's API strips X text and points you to "registering a developer application within X portal". Full text exists on certain contracts: Talkwalker sells an X add-on. One vendor announced X resyndication rights in 2024; its current developer docs return X as post IDs. Ask in writing what your tier exports.

Four places social data can land, left to right. A dashboard, charts and alerts in the vendor's screen, bands A and B. An export, a file you download capped by tier, bands A and B. An API, records you call for while you build the analysis, band C. A managed feed, rows to your fields in your warehouse, band D. A bar widens left to right to show that what you can take out grows, and a note says the bands describe delivery, not quality.
Where your social data ends up: the bands describe delivery, not quality.

Brandwatch alternatives by where the data ends up

With the six gaps as the yardstick, here are the 13 alternatives, band by band. Order within a band is alphabetical. It is not a ranking.

A. Full listening suites

Dashboard first, annual contracts, export and API varying by network and tier: what most buyers mean by social listening tools. Onclusive Social, Quid and Pulsar lack public API docs, so they are out.

Meltwater

Meltwater is a media and social intelligence suite sold in four packages.

Attribute Detail
Best for (vs Brandwatch) News and social in one contract, API included
Networks and sources Not defined at primary
History 12 months on the inclusive API allowance
What you get out Dashboard; API, "up to 30,000 documents per month", in most core packages
X and Reddit via API X: "only the ID of the post and the post's author"; Reddit: Not documented
Pricing Annual licence, quoted; Not published
Watch-out Full-text X rests on a 2024 claim its API docs omit
Evidence What we found
Ownership and events Not verified; X resyndication release October 10, 2024
AI-training clause Not addressed in published terms (GTC US, April 5, 2025)
Exit terms Rights "immediately terminate" (§7.6); 60-day non-renewal notice; API exports deleted at 30 days
Verified Developer portal, pricing, GTC, Oct 2026

Meltwater beats Brandwatch when you want an API without a separate negotiation. Exports forecast above 2,000,000 documents are "sampled down" to about that size, so a full-archive pull needs a contract talk.

X is the honest gate. In 2024 Meltwater said it had "secured the rights to resyndicate X content to approved customers"; its docs are silent. Get it in writing.

Not for: teams that need X text without their own X developer account, until Meltwater confirms "approved customer" status in writing.

Sprinklr

Sprinklr is a customer-experience suite with a listening module, Sprinklr Insights.

Attribute Detail
Best for (vs Brandwatch) Listening inside a care and customer-experience stack
Networks and sources Reddit: "125,000+ active Subreddits"; X: "the entire X Firehose"; others not defined
History Reddit from Q2 2017; X from Q3 2014
What you get out Dashboard; UI and API exports
X and Reddit via API Reddit: content and authors "masked from exports (via UI or API)" from March 2026; X: Not documented
Pricing Annual licence, quoted; Not published
Watch-out Reddit post-level data no longer leaves the platform
Evidence What we found
Ownership and events Sprinklr, Inc. (public company); Reddit change March 2026
AI-training clause Not addressed in published terms (MSA V2.7, US)
Exit terms Customer Content on request in the final 30 days (§3.4); listening posts excluded
Verified Sprinklr Help pages, MSA V2.7, Oct 2026

Sprinklr beats Brandwatch when listening has to sit inside the same stack as customer care, and your team reads Reddit on screen. Its Reddit firehose "excludes content from certain Subreddits, including spam, NSFW, or low-activity communities", so check that your niche ones appear.

The masking covers "API integrations and platform-based exports" alike: an annoyance on screen, a deal-breaker for Reddit in a warehouse.

Not for: anyone whose Reddit analysis runs in their own warehouse.

Synthesio (Ipsos)

Synthesio is a consumer-intelligence suite, "An Ipsos Company" since 2018.

Attribute Detail
Best for (vs Brandwatch) Research services alongside the tool
Networks and sources "80 Billion Social Signals per Year", "2k+ Ecommerce Sources"; not defined
History Not published
What you get out Dashboard; Mentions Export and Insights APIs (docs behind login)
X and Reddit via API Not published
Pricing Not published
Watch-out Export and API terms cannot be checked before you sign
Evidence What we found
Ownership and events Ipsos announced the acquisition October 30, 2018
AI-training clause terms not verified
Exit terms terms not verified
Verified synthesio.com, October 2026

Synthesio beats Brandwatch when your team would rather buy analysis than staff it: it sells "Insight Services … From Self-Service to Expert-led".

Its API docs sit behind a login, so we could not read what they return for X or Reddit. That is not a finding against Synthesio; ask for the docs before the demo.

Not for: teams that must verify export terms before a demo.

Talkwalker (Lumen, Hootsuite)

Talkwalker is a suite Hootsuite agreed to acquire in 2024 and sells as "Lumen powered by Talkwalker".

Attribute Detail
Best for (vs Brandwatch) Hootsuite teams; the one documented paid route to X text by API
Networks and sources "150 million websites and 30+ social media channels"; not defined
History "2+ years" (Lumen page); "13 months" (Hootsuite plans page)
What you get out Dashboard; three APIs, metered in credits
X and Reddit via API X: ID, author ID, sentiment, "1,5M docs per month and per account"; full text via paid add-on; "Raw Reddit data cannot be exported"
Pricing Annual licence, quoted; Not published
Watch-out Raw posts from five networks stay in the platform
Evidence What we found
Ownership and events Hootsuite "set to acquire Talkwalker", April 8, 2024; close not confirmed
AI-training clause Not addressed in published terms (ToS, July 29, 2025)
Exit terms Delete API content "including any backups or copies" at expiry (§2.7); 60-day non-renewal notice
Verified Developer pages, ToS, Hootsuite pages, Oct 2026

Talkwalker beats Brandwatch when you need X text in your own systems and will pay for it. Its restrictions sit on one public page, so a trial is easy to plan.

It also lists what stays: Reddit leaves only as aggregated metrics; Facebook and Instagram are "not exportable via APIs or any automated mechanism". On screen, that does not bind. In a warehouse, it does, and the API terms keep raw data "solely for Customer's internal use", with no redistribution.

Not for: teams that need Reddit, Meta or LinkedIn rows outside the dashboard.

YouScan

YouScan is a listening suite known for visual (image) analysis.

Attribute Detail
Best for (vs Brandwatch) Image-heavy conversations, with a published entry price
Networks and sources "Full coverage of supported" sources (not defined); images "from over 500K sources"
History Limited by plan; raised by an Enterprise module
What you get out Dashboard; "API data access is available as a paid add-on"
X and Reddit via API X: "Full Text, and URLs are removed", Post ID remains; Reddit: "not available through the API"
Pricing Flat tier: Starter $499 / €499 / £499 a month, billed annually (Oct 2026); API add-on Not published
Watch-out No Reddit through the API, and no X text
Evidence What we found
Ownership and events Not verified
AI-training clause Prohibited without written approval (§5.2.18, from September 30, 2026)
Exit terms Not addressed in published terms
Verified Pricing, API help, MSA, Oct 2026

YouScan beats Brandwatch when your brand shows up in photos more than captions, and it is the only full suite here with a published price.

Its terms bar training "any artificial intelligence, machine learning, large language model" or similar system on its data "unless YouScan has expressly approved such use in writing". Planning a model? Get approval first.

Not for: teams needing Reddit rows or X text by API, or training models.

B. Lighter listening tools for smaller teams

Self-serve or add-on tools, metered by keywords, topics and mentions. None has a free plan.

Awario

Awario is a self-serve listening tool metered by topics and mentions.

Attribute Detail
Best for (vs Brandwatch) A few topics on a published budget
Networks and sources Reddit, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, news; not defined
History 5,000 / 15,000 / 50,000 stored mentions per topic; oldest replaced at the cap
What you get out Dashboard; CSV export on Pro and up; API on Enterprise only
X and Reddit via API X: "Twitter data is not available via Awario API"; Reddit: Not documented
Pricing Tier by topics and mentions: Starter $49/mo or $29 billed annually; Pro $149 or $89; Enterprise $399 or $249 (Oct 2026)
Watch-out The mention cap overwrites history
Evidence What we found
Ownership and events Not verified
AI-training clause terms not verified (terms page returned 404)
Exit terms Cancel "anytime", no refunds "for partial use"; exit export: Not published
Verified Pricing (browser), API page, Oct 2026

Awario beats Brandwatch when the job is a handful of topics on a visible budget: its annual Starter rate is the lowest published listening price here.

The cap is the trade: a busy brand term rolls its oldest mentions out first, so export on a schedule. The API needs Enterprise and still lacks X.

Not for: teams that need X in an API feed or multi-year history.

Brand24

Brand24 is a self-serve listening tool with five published tiers.

Attribute Detail
Best for (vs Brandwatch) Published tiers, an API and a written switching clause
Networks and sources 16 listed, Facebook to Podcasts; not defined
History Not stated
What you get out Dashboard; MCP; API with "mention-level rows"
X and Reddit via API Facebook, Instagram and X text fields "come back empty"; Reddit text not documented
Pricing Tier by keywords and mentions: Individual $249/mo or $199 billed annually, to Enterprise "from $1499"; API "$149" (pricing page) or "$99/month" (API page), Oct 2026
Watch-out Keyword caps per tier shape what you can track
Evidence What we found
Ownership and events Operated by "Brand24 Global Inc."
AI-training clause Not addressed in published terms (ToS, 29.06.2026)
Exit terms 30-day "Transition Period" with export "in a commonly used machine-readable format" (§XI)
Verified Prices, API page, ToS, Oct 2026

Brand24 beats Brandwatch when leaving matters as much as arriving: its exit terms are the most detailed here, with a provider change counted as termination "with a two-month notice period".

Full text "is available on most sources", but not Facebook, Instagram or X. With two API prices on its own website, get yours in writing.

Not for: teams that need X text by API.

Mention (by Agorapulse)

Mention is a monitoring tool whose publishing side is now Agorapulse.

Attribute Detail
Best for (vs Brandwatch) Monitoring that includes "75+ review sites"
Networks and sources "Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, Reddit, TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube, and more"
History "Not included in this plan"; "available as a paid add-on"
What you get out Dashboard; API as a paid add-on
X and Reddit via API X: "no other metadata than the ID and URL" (developer guide); Reddit: Not documented
Pricing One "Company" plan; Not published
Watch-out History and API both cost extra, at unpublished prices
Evidence What we found
Ownership and events Agorapulse relationship stated; ownership not verified
AI-training clause terms not verified (terms pages returned 404)
Exit terms terms not verified
Verified Pricing (browser), dev.mention.com, Oct 2026

Mention beats Brandwatch when review websites such as Trustpilot sit at the centre of the brief.

Read its X line with care: the guide references Twitter's legacy v1.1 endpoint, so behaviour may have changed. Ask.

Not for: research teams that need back-data by default.

Sprout Social (Listening add-on)

Sprout Social is a social media management suite, here for its Listening add-on.

Attribute Detail
Best for (vs Brandwatch) Listening in the Sprout seats you already have
Networks and sources "X is the only network where we are confident we will receive every message"
History 30 days pulled when a Topic is created (except Instagram)
What you get out Dashboard in Sprout; API on Advanced and Enterprise
X and Reddit via API Not documented
Pricing Per seat, listening as add-on "to the Standard plan and up"; Not published
Watch-out Networks other than X are sampled, by Sprout's own account
Evidence What we found
Ownership and events Sprout Social, Inc. (public company)
AI-training clause Not addressed in published terms (ToS, Product Terms 2026)
Exit terms Content removable "within thirty (30) days" of expiry (§6.3)
Verified Pricing, help centre, ToS, Oct 2026

Sprout beats Brandwatch in one case: you already publish from Sprout. Weigh speed: X arrives "within two to three minutes", Reddit is "Checked once every four hours".

Seat prices are not a listening price; ask for the add-on figure.

Not for: teams that do not use Sprout for publishing.

C. Raw platform and social data APIs

Records, not dashboards; you build the analysis. Brandwatch's, Meltwater's and Talkwalker's docs send you here for X text. For scrapers, see our social media data extraction tools roundup.

Reddit Data API (direct)

The Reddit Data API is Reddit's own API; commercial use needs a separate agreement.

Attribute Detail
Best for (vs Brandwatch) Reddit records without a suite in between
Networks and sources Reddit only
History Not published
What you get out API records
X and Reddit via API Reddit: commercial use needs "a separate agreement with Reddit" (§3.1)
Pricing Separate agreement; Not published (2023: $0.24 per 1K calls for high-usage apps)
Watch-out Reddit said public access closes by March 2027
Evidence What we found
Ownership and events Reddit, Inc.; closure announced September 30, 2026 (reported)
AI-training clause No AI training "without the express permission of rightsholders"
Exit terms Delete stored content, "including any data or models that were derived" (§6)
Verified Data API Terms, revised July 20, 2026

A direct agreement beats Brandwatch when Reddit is the network that matters: it is the one route where you negotiate with the source.

The calendar is the limit: Reddit said new public access requests stop on October 31, 2026. A commercial agreement has no published price or timeline.

Not for: anyone needing a self-serve commercial path this quarter.

X API (direct)

The X API is X's own API, priced pay-per-use since February 6, 2026.

Attribute Detail
Best for (vs Brandwatch) X posts as rows; the re-hydration route your vendor's docs name
Networks and sources X only
History Not documented in the pages we read
What you get out Full post objects by lookup, up to 100 IDs per request
X and Reddit via API X: full text; Reddit: n/a
Pricing Usage: $0.005 per post read, capped at 3 million reads a month; Enterprise Not published
Watch-out Pay-per-use targets "indie builders, startups, and hobbyists"
Evidence What we found
Ownership and events X Corp.; pay-per-use launched February 6, 2026
AI-training clause No use "to fine-tune or train a foundation or frontier model" (terms undefined)
Exit terms "permanently delete all Licensed Material" (§VII.I), post IDs included
Verified Pricing, changelog, Developer Agreement (April 27, 2026)

The X API beats Brandwatch when X text must sit in your warehouse and you can build the analysis. At the cap, 3,000,000 reads at $0.005 come to $15,000 a month (our arithmetic); beyond it sits an unpriced Enterprise contract.

Sharing stops at 50,000 hydrated objects "per recipient, per day"; design around it if posts go to an agency.

Not for: teams without engineers to run the pipeline.

YouTube Data API

The YouTube Data API is Google's quota-metered API for videos and comments.

Attribute Detail
Best for (vs Brandwatch) Conversation in YouTube comments
Networks and sources YouTube only
History Not published
What you get out API records
X and Reddit via API n/a
Pricing Quota: "100 search.list calls, 100 videos.insert calls, and 10,000 units per day" for other endpoints; price Not published
Watch-out The default quota "is subject to change"
Evidence What we found
Ownership and events Google
AI-training clause terms not verified
Exit terms terms not verified
Verified Quota page, "Last updated 2026-10-15 UTC"

The YouTube Data API beats Brandwatch for one narrow job: comments under your videos, or a competitor's, as rows you own. With 100 searches a day, discover videos once, then read comments.

Not for: multi-network listening.

D. Managed custom social feed

Rows in your own systems, to your fields. Whether collecting public social data is lawful turns on the data, the access and the use, and the two platform cases, Meta v. Bright Data and X Corp. v. Bright Data, ended without appellate rulings. More on extracting social media data legally.

Forage AI

Managed custom feed, no dashboard. Not scored. Forage AI builds and runs a managed extraction pipeline that collects the public social content you specify and delivers it to your fields.

Attribute Detail
Best for (vs Brandwatch) Posts that must land in your own warehouse, to your schema
Networks and sources Set by the sources and accounts you specify
History No archive: collection starts when your pipeline does
What you get out CSV, JSON or XML, by API or into your warehouse; real-time alerts if needed
X and Reddit via API Scoped per project; X's and Reddit's terms still apply
Pricing Scoped per project; no published price
Watch-out No dashboard or sentiment product; field changes go through the provider
Evidence What we found
Ownership and events Forage AI (managed service)
AI-training clause The client owns the delivered data; platform terms and the law still apply
Exit terms The delivered dataset is yours; never resold; platform terms still apply
Verified Forage AI positioning, October 2026

A managed feed beats Brandwatch when posts must land in your own systems: it replaces the export you could not get. You name the sources and accounts, and posts arrive as rows to your schema. Sentiment tagging is a custom build on the delivered data. Forage AI has collected over a million social profiles in under half a day.

Not for: teams that want dashboards and reports out of the box.

Why Forage AI for custom social feeds

Forage AI's managed social media data extraction collects public social content from the sources and accounts you specify, structures it to your fields, and delivers it as CSV, JSON or XML, by API or into your warehouse, with real-time alerts if needed. You own the output; it is never resold. No dashboard, no self-serve API, and X's and Reddit's terms still apply.

Choose Forage AI if your social data has to land in your own systems, to your schema, and no suite export or platform API hands over what you need.

Choose a listening suite or lighter tool if your team works from dashboards, alerts and reports; choose a platform API if one network's records and your own engineers are enough.

Forage AI promotional banner reading "Your social data, in your warehouse." Social posts from the content you specify flow into a table of your fields and then into your warehouse or API, with a Talk to our expert button. Forage AI builds and runs a managed extraction pipeline that collects the public social content you specify, structured to your fields, and you own the output.

Brandwatch alternatives compared on coverage, export and terms

Here is the whole roster side by side on what leaves each tool, per each vendor's own documents, October 2026.

Reddit Data API n/a By agreement n/a Not published Yes: permission needed Yes: incl. derived models
YouTube Data API n/a n/a n/a Quota; not published terms not verified terms not verified

On coverage, compare the Networks and History rows in each entry: only Sprinklr and Sprout Social say what arrives per network (Sprinklr describes its Reddit and X firehoses; Sprout says "Other sources are sample based"), and no tool here publishes history for every network.

Forage AI is not scored: a managed feed is scoped per project. "Not documented" is not "not possible": ask in writing.

Which tools look like alternatives but are not?

These turn up on other Brandwatch lists but do a different job:

  • Scheduling tools: Buffer, Later and Hootsuite's publishing core (its listening is Lumen, band A).
  • Influencer platforms: CreatorIQ, Upfluence and HypeAuditor, a separate category.
  • Research-only access: Meta Content Library needs a not-for-profit research affiliation; TikTok Research API applicants must be independent of commercial interests; LinkedIn permissions "require explicit approval".
  • Data365: does not state, per network, how its data is obtained.
  • Brandwatch's own products: Social Media Management (formerly Falcon), Influence (formerly Paladin).

Free research access is not commercial access.

Three questions to answer before you shortlist

Three answers turn 13 names into two or three:

  1. Where does the data end? A screen points to bands A and B; rows in your own systems point to C and D.
  2. Which networks carry your conversation? Check what each tool exports from them at post level (D1).
  3. What will you do with the posts? Report, store, combine or train: that decides which clauses matter (D5).

In practice, on a screen the export gap does not bind and a suite may be right. Building your own? Start with building an enterprise brand monitoring system.

How to test an alternative before you switch

Two or three names are a shortlist, not a verdict; the test below makes the verdict. Built from vendors' docs and platform terms: a test design, not an industry standard. Pair it with what to ask a data vendor before signing.

The trial checklist

Same queries, same window, every shortlisted tool, Brandwatch included:

  1. Your own query set, per network: score against posts you know exist.
  2. X through the API: full text or IDs? Ask Meltwater about "approved customer" status; price Talkwalker's add-on.
  3. Reddit, Meta, TikTok and LinkedIn export, through UI and API.
  4. History per network: Brandwatch states "back to 2008" overall but 12 months of X on Listen.
  5. API rate limit and price in writing: Brandwatch's default is "30 API requests every 10 minutes".
  6. Mention, volume and sampling caps: Meltwater samples exports above 2,000,000 documents.
  7. AI-use and redistribution clause: if a vendor will not answer, write "not stated".
  8. What you keep at cancellation: Brandwatch's "Supplier Data" "includes search terms and queries processed by the Services" (MSA §1).
  9. For a raw API vendor, how the data is obtained, network by network.

Ask every vendor what changes for Reddit after its public API closes. A mention count without a list of known posts says nothing about misses.

The switch steps

The steps overlap:

  • Export before notice: Brandwatch customers may export Customer Data "during the Term", with "no obligation to store" it after (§2.10). Meltwater and Talkwalker want 60 days' non-renewal notice; Brandwatch fees are "non-cancellable and non-refundable unless stated otherwise on an Order".
  • Parallel run: both tools, over a normal volume cycle.
  • Re-hydrate X IDs: your own X developer account, $0.005 per post read.
  • Map fields: after choosing a delivery format for your warehouse.
# Fetch full post text for IDs exported from a listening tool (example IDs).
# Up to 100 IDs per request; billed at X's pay-per-use rate ($0.005 per post read).
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer $X_BEARER_TOKEN" \
  "https://api.x.com/2/tweets?ids=1460323737035677698,1519781379172495360&tweet.fields=created_at,author_id,public_metrics"

Re-hydration is a running cost and duty: X requires removals within 24 hours of a written request (§IV.B). Our reading is that deleted posts will not come back; test it on your IDs.

Forage AI promotional banner reading "The export you could not get, as rows you own." Posts from the sources you name pass through a managed pipeline into rows to your fields, with a Talk to our expert button. Forage AI builds and runs a managed extraction pipeline for the public social content you specify, delivered by API or into your warehouse, with real-time alerts optional.

Why do teams leave Brandwatch if they rate it highly?

Brandwatch sits in that test as the baseline, so start with what it says it does well: Consumer Research holds "1.4+ trillion" posts "back to 2008", adding "496 million" a day. Cision has owned Brandwatch since June 1, 2021.

The triggers sit in Brandwatch's own terms, not complaints. It publishes no price, and:

  • Seats and billing: "Each User account is for 1 individual only"; fees "invoiced annually in advance".
  • API terms: "subject to a use case approval", queries refreshed "at least daily", X text stripped.
  • Platform changes: X's 2023 API deprecation removed certain X metrics.

What did the social platforms change from 2023 to 2026?

The last trigger on that list is the one no vendor controls. Platforms, not vendors, set what any tool can see and export.

Platform What changed Date
X Pay-per-use: $0.005 per post read, 3 million cap February 6, 2026
X Share post IDs; frontier-model training ban Agreement of April 27, 2026
Reddit Data API Terms; paid rate for high-usage apps June 19 and July 1, 2023
Reddit Reddit said: new requests stop; RSS ends; unregistered-app access starts to close; public access closes October 31, 2026; November 13, 2026; January 12, 2027; March 2027
Meta "CrowdTangle is no longer available"; Content Library research-only August 14, 2024

Reddit's dates were announced September 30, 2026, as reported by Social Media Today and PPC Land. Meta's Content Library is research-only.

Expert Insights

Brandi Geurkink, executive director of the Coalition for Independent Technology Research, said Meta's replacement tools "hardly fill the gaping hole that is left by CrowdTangle's shutdown" (NPR via OPB, August 14, 2024).

After Twitter ended free API access, a Coalition survey of 167 researchers found "over 100 projects were canceled, halted, or pivoted to other platforms" (CJR Tow Center, December 2023). Twitter is a platform, not a data vendor.

Why does full post text depend on your contract?

This article is for informational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice. Consult a qualified attorney for legal guidance specific to your situation.

Full text by API rides on an add-on or a partner right, and platform terms travel with every post. A permission at one layer clears only that layer:

Use X (platform) Reddit (platform API) Brandwatch standard appendix Your Order
Commercial use Pay-per-use to 3M reads a month; Enterprise above "a separate agreement" Follow platform terms (§2.1) Not published
Share outside your team Post IDs; 50,000 hydrated per recipient a day Not documented Not documented Not published
Train a model No "foundation or frontier model" Rightsholders' permission Prior written consent (§2.4) Not published
Keep an archive Delete at termination Delete, incl. derived models No "historical database" (§2.5(d)) Not published

Unless your Order says otherwise, Brandwatch's appendix (February 11, 2026) is broader than X's clause: it covers "any form of algorithmic or software-based artificial intelligence systems".

A custom feed moves who builds the pipeline, not the platform's terms

X's and Reddit's terms bind custom collection too. Leaving a suite for a raw API or managed feed changes who runs the pipeline, not what you may store, share or train on.

Pick two names from your shortlist. Run the same queries over the same window in the same week, and export from both through the route you will use. Repeat the nine lines at every renewal, Brandwatch included, because the platforms, not the vendors, keep moving the line. And if the answer to "where does it end up" is rows in your own warehouse, that is the job a managed custom feed such as Forage AI's does.

Forage AI promotional banner reading "Social posts as rows in your own warehouse." Many source points converge into a single warehouse stack, with the note "Over a million social profiles collected in under half a day" and a Talk to our expert button. Forage AI builds and runs a managed extraction pipeline to your fields, from the sources you specify, and you own the output.
When social posts have to land as rows in your own warehouse, Forage AI builds and runs a managed extraction pipeline to your fields, from the sources you specify. You own the output.

Brandwatch alternatives FAQ

How much does Brandwatch cost?

Brandwatch publishes no prices. Vendr reports a median of $50,000 a year across 40 purchases (data last updated February 2026): a buyer sample, not a list price.

Is there a free alternative to Brandwatch?

No listening tool here has a free plan; Awario, Brand24 and Mention offer free trials. The lowest published prices are Awario at $29/mo and Brand24 at $199/mo, billed annually (October 2026).

What is the difference between Brandwatch and Talkwalker?

Both are unpriced enterprise suites; Talkwalker is sold as Lumen by Hootsuite. Both APIs return X as IDs, but Talkwalker sells a full-text X add-on and blocks raw Reddit, Meta, TikTok and LinkedIn export.

Is Brandwatch the same as Hootsuite?

No. Hootsuite launched "Insights Powered by Brandwatch" on March 4, 2020, but its listening product today is Lumen, powered by Talkwalker.

Does Brandwatch have an API, and what does it return?

Yes, on your Order, "subject to a use case approval", at 30 requests every 10 minutes. X posts return with text stripped, LinkedIn without text, news as a 256-character snippet.

What data sources does Brandwatch cover?

Brandwatch lists 21 networks, including X, TikTok, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky and YouTube; Facebook is "owned pages". Export differs by network.

Which tools deliver raw social data into a warehouse?

A suite's API within its limits, a platform API (X; Reddit by agreement; YouTube), or a managed custom feed. The same platform terms bind all three.

Are Brandwatch and Cision the same company?

No. Cision has owned Brandwatch since June 1, 2021, and Brandwatch's terms sit under Cision's MSA.
